Name: Robert Rodriguez on Jan 25, 2008State: WVCountry: USComments: it's not right for the mother of my child to get 4,100 earned income credit. I pay 300.00 a month child support she gets wic, 294.00 month food stamps and pays no rent or any bills. So it's ovious that she does not spend a dime of her own money on the child and she get's 4,100 earned income credit and I don't get a dime of credit it's a little backwards to me!!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 25, 2008State: SCCountry: USComments: My husband works hard and dutifully pays child support for my stepson. I think that co-parents should be allowed to receive some sort of tax credit. Maybe not the entire deduction, but it is only equitable that they receive something. Both parents financially support the child, why shouldn't both receive credit for doing soFlag

Name: Kristopher Updike on Feb 28, 2008State: ALCountry: USComments: Originally, I had joint custody and we were supposed to claim him every other year. I moved about 100 miles away and to help my son we agreed to do every other weekend during the school year. The first 3 years everything was fine, but when she found out that he had lived with her for more than half the year and federal law over rules local or state law, she started claiming him every other year. Now my new wife and 3 children are forced to pay over $10,000 per year with no way to write it off or get credit for it. I want to cry when I think about my new family having to suffer because the law is on the side of my inconsiderate greddy ex-wife. Fathers really get a raw deal with divorce.Flag

My ex gets my child support money tax free and on top of that gets the tax exemptions for the children. Now I owe money at the end of every year and she cashes in a small fortune. Sickening...Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 30, 2008State: SCCountry: USComments: I love my children very much and do not have a problem paying child support. However, I have remarried and have another child with my new wife. If I were able to deduct the support I pay from my income, my daughter would more than qualify for medical/dental assistance and or other help. A few years ago my daughter broke her arm and I could not afford insurance. Even in a healthy child state my daughter could not get help because they said I made too much money. We are a society today of blended families and I believe all children deserve all benefits available. By having a child support tax credit or changing the way states figure out benefits would take care of this issue. Afterall, it IS about the children.Flag

Name: Shiloh Ray on Apr 25, 2008State: WACountry: USComments: I agree..I think the parent who has to pay child support, should be able to write off the amount they have paid for the year as a deduction on their taxes. As for claiming, it is based off how you did your divorce unless the laws in your state are different in that area. I divorced my x and I have to pay child support. However I get to claim my child on even years on my taxes and take the credit.Flag
