Name: Felix Rodriguez on Jun 30, 2003State: VACountry: USComments: I am a non-custodial parent who pays according to the court 55% of my two children's support, though I have never claimed not even one of them. Aside from giving my 55%, I also spend additional money when my children come to stay with me like spending for food, buying them games and toys for their room and taking them out. I deserve to claim at least one of my children since so much of my money goes to my children. Felix RodriguezFlag

Name: Vicki Gruhn on Sep 12, 2003State: IACountry: USComments: It says in my child support agrement I am supposed to be able to claim my child on taxes and every year my ex beats me to claiming her, because it takes us longer to file because of our farm. So our tax guy says there is nothing we can do about it unless he signs something saying we can claim her and he wont, even though the court says we can claim her.Flag

Name: Russell Szekely on Jan 29, 2004State: NCCountry: USComments: I am also a loving father who has paid his child support for 14 years without fail. I also wonder if I am assuming half her expenses by paying child support, why then do I not also get a break from my taxes the same as her mother Just not fair. I also pay all her insurance and half her medical bills.Flag

Name: Tracy Simms on Apr 12, 2005State: KYCountry: USComments: I feel the same way..my husband pays support, which is what is taking care of the child, well, "supposed" to be anyway, and SHE gets the money at the end..not fair at all...I know she does not spend as much on the child each month as we do in support payments AND for things for him when he is with us...non-custodial parents get treated like crap..it does not matter if they have enough money to eat or even to get to work, according to the state it does not matter how he lives, his job is to pay his support..they want to take every extra dime a man makes and give it to the ex..and that is just not right..they need to come up with a system to where they figure out about how much it costs to raise the child each month, and then set it and leave it...how is the non-custodial supposed to ever get ahead Child support laws are ridiculous! I have an ex and we have a daughter together..I do NOT make him pay support..just as long as he helps with get her the things she needs..and we take turns filing taxes every other year..i get the credit one year, he gets it the next..that is how it should be..total equal parenting..BOTH parents providing for the child..not just the non-custodial trying to do it all....Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 25, 2006State: NCCountry: USComments: It really unfair and unfortunate that non custodial parent spends each year paying child support for a child/children and receives no credit for doing so. Most custodial parents receive some form of a tax break because they carry the children in an exstranged relationship as dependents; therefore not only are they receiving child support but are also granted thousands of dollars for simply carrying these children as dependents. Where does this leave the non-custodial parent, out of money and out luck. The system is so unfair with regards to non-custodial parents that it is pathetic. I don't know a person a live who would spend half of their yearly earnings on a new car and never even get the chance to drive it or reap the rewards of owning it. The government has really screwed up this system.Flag
