Spectra Energy is installing a high pressured gas pipeline through Jersey City against the will of Jersey City and its residents.

Running this pipeline through Jersey City will impact revenue due to loss of ratables from properties that have declined in value due to their proximity to the pipe line and deter future development. In addition, an aged sewer line could potentially be compromised and there would be an increased need for public safety, ie- police and an emergency preparedness plan.

                               
Jersey City residents should not have to pay the price of an endeavor that could potentially cause physical harm and economic damage to them.

We are asking for your support in making Spectra Energy place the pipeline through the river or implement a special tax: Equalization Tax, to compensate Jersey City appropriately for the safety risk, loss of revenue both current and future, and additional expenses such as emergency preparedness that will be imposed on us.
