Recently the speed limit of 80 km/h for passenger vehicles and 65km/h for T class vehicles has begun to be enforced. This limit was last updated in 1979 for the Highways of Trinidad and Tobago. The fine for breaking the limit was recently increased to $1000. Today we are hearing that if a citizen chooses to contest this penalty in-front of a Magistrate, the maximum fine that can then be charged is $6,000. Who makes up these laws? Which stakeholders are consulted with and by which methods? Who agrees to its ascension? Should we now be allowed to partake in national referendums to have a consensus on the law changes and decisions that affect us? Please sign this petition if you believe that in 2016 we should have a say in the laws and fines for Trinidad and Tobago.
