The MTC has chosen composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim as their Master Playwright for the 2013 Festival. The BHTC must withdraw from the festival for the following reasons: 1. Sondheim's works are all musicals. Our resources for a artistically successful musical are lacking. We could not simply partner with the school of music for this show because it would hinder the availability of roles to our current pool of actors and would require the already incredibly busy music students to schedule another show. 2. Sondheim's songs are written for professionally trained singers. Very few actors in the BHTC acting pool would be able to quickly (within the normal rehearsal period) rise to the challenge of handling Sondheim's demands.
