The council finally committed to the safety upgrades we pushed for on Takatu Road. Knowing my family and neighbors will no longer risk their lives on that stretch brings me such profound relief. We will keep watching the construction closely to ensure the work is done properly.

Final supporters
Takatu Road is the only access road to Tawharanui Regional Park. It is used by many thousands of visitors every year. Every year there are many accidents causing injury to people and damage to cars. There have also been fatalities due to the poor condition of the road. It is time this road is upgraded to provide adequate SAFE access to the regional park. There are a few people who dont want the road made safer "as it will attract more people". There are already tens of thousands of people that use this road. IT NEEDS TO BE MADE SAFER. Keeping it in an unsafe condition is not a good means of limiting numbers. Remember... SAFE doesnt have to mean sealed.
This needsaction now before morepeople are killed on this road.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting because it confirms that I am not alone in fearing for anyone traveling to the park. Every person who joins this movement helps prove that our safety needs to matter more than keeping this stretch of road in such a neglected state.

Tawharanui is such a great spot but the drive in is honestly terrifying. Please sort this out.
Ridiculous that it has stayed like this for so long. Someone is gonna get killed if they dont fix it soon.
My car was trashed on that road last summer. Its not even just about the safety its just a horrible mess to drive on.
The road is a total death trap. Hit a massive pothole there last month and almost went off the edge.
Totally agree. Keeping the road bad to stop people coming is just dangerous and stupid.
About time something was done!!
