As a parent who lost her world to a swimming pool, we all know no one is perfect and we need these extra measures in place to give us more time to get to our children and to make it harder for out little ones to get into trouble.Flag

Name: Maggie Stephenson on Apr 22, 2007State: MECountry: USComments: There are so many simple things people could do to protect our children and yet they STILL fail to do so! Barries, fences and covers SHOULD be mandatory and those who fail to use those safety measures SHOULD be held accountable for violating the law. I am behind you a 100%!Flag

Name: Mark Stephenson on Apr 22, 2007State: MECountry: USComments: Unfortunately, people with pools have more rights than innocent children. My nephew, Kevin William Stephenson, drowned in a police officers pool in misssouri 3-31-07. He was 3. Why are above ground ladders not required to raise automatically. Pool gates are required to close automatically A police officer should know better. He says "I forgot to lock it up". Auto closers don't forget, that's the point.Flag

Name: Dolores Stephenson on Apr 23, 2007State:Country:Comments: My 3 year old grandson, Kevin, drowned in a policeman's pool in Waynesville, Mo. recently. His mother works for a daycare supervising other 3 year old children. An investigation was going to take place, and was later recinded. During the month of March there were 3 drownings of 3year olds in the news. Hope you can make a difference.Flag

Name: Niles Stephenson on Dec 28, 2007State: MOCountry: USComments: My 3yr old son Kevin drowned while in the care of his mother, in her neighbors pool, just 10 days after the court, after a 2yr custody battle, finally was increasing my custody. 3 things killed my son: 1)The legal system that thinks fathers are just a paycheck and deserve no rights with thier children. 2)an unsecured and unsupervised pool. 3)An unfit mmother whos only concern for the child was so she would get a paycheck. Once it was ruled she was going to lose the paycheck with in days he drowned. Coincidence After the drowning I noticed pool alarms in a local dept. store for only $8.00ea. Pool owners are ignorant if they don't protect thier pools, law or not!Flag

Name: Gerri McDermitt on Jun 8, 2008State: LACountry: USComments: My neighbor has an above ground pool. I have a granddaughter that is 3 years old. I would very much like to see this law passed. Even though we watch our little Ava like a hawk, we all know how quickly children can get away from us in a split second. My neighbor's ladder is connected to their pool and there are chairs around the pool so their small children ages 3 and 4 can climb up there and fall in it before they would be noticed. I think this is a great law that should be passed. I would not want to see this happen to anyone. Losing a child is something no one ever gets over.Flag
