Comments: His Excellency, Governor Sullivan I. Chime deserves the unflinching support and encouragement of all well-meaning Enuguites at home and in Diaspora, for his administration's diligence in delivering quality services to many towns and villages of the state. I am indeed very satisfied and proud to identify with reports of the Governor's focus on poverty-alleviation programs and projects as well his administration's widespread distribution of essential amenities to various geo-political zones of the state. Kudos to the Governor and all members of his administration.

Comments: While I support Governor Chime for the things I had his is doing now in Enugu State, I take exception to the fact that of all the places you mentioned roads and other infrastructural developments are taking place, there is no mention of emene. why! My thinking is because, every other administration in enugu state has always forgotton that emene is part of enugu state and one of the suburbs in enugu. Why can't your governors direct the local government chairmen to embark on even constructing laterite roads in places like emene. Do you know that apart from abakaliki road, and the now nchatancha road, there is no street in emene that can be said to be motorable. Governor Chime, well done so far, but remember the down troden people of emene. I am not an enugu state indegine but I belong to the down troden at all times. You will surely survive at the appeal court by the Grace of God so long as you have decided to carve a ninche for yourself.

Enugu used to be a peaceful town that many people travelled to if they wanted a peaceful moment. I don't know what happened. I am from Amechi Awkunanaw, and would like to see more of the government presence in Awkunanaw. My prayer is that we will all live as one big family in pursuance is a better Enugu State instead being divided for any reason. The programs and activities we had in Enugu in 1980’s is part of the positive influences of my life today. Comments: Who is the commissioner for Education in Enugu State and what is his/her background.? Will any of us or top Government officials keep their children in Primary schools with this level of standard? This is the kind of issues I want the state government to address. If the commissioner for Education is incompetent, you should fire him/ her and replace him /her with a capable hand.Education is too important to be in the hands of a medicore performer or an intern.Without strong Education and vocational programs,Enugu will never be a great State.I fully understand that we have limited resources ,what about discipline and Leadership? Most of you will remember when Trans-Ekulu Primary school was the best Primary school in Enugu. What happened? As soon as Enugu state was created and Anambra indigenes said F.. Eungu people and the standard too a nose dive. What Anambra indigenes subsequently did was to move their children to University Primary school in Enugu Campus. Some of you know the current Governor, call his attention to this matter.I once suggested that Enugu Government should establish local property tax system that will soley be used to improve Primary schools in the entire state and one Anambra man got so offended that he walked out of the discussion. All of us pay property taxes in United States and I told the guy if you don't like it,sell your house in Independence Layout, rent or move out of Enugu. We will not miss you.I told him you want all the "goodies" in Enugu state such as security, clean environment, entertain, good government ,good people etc but you don't want to pay to Educate future Leaders of Enugu? The ugly thing about this exchange is that this guy is my friend and neighbour who studied in United States and fully settled in Nigeria.I told him "better soup na money maker ma" In 1974,I passed the entrance examination to the elite Nigeria military school Zaria.Anambra and Imo state applicants scored the highest score[ 90%&above] while some states in the North were averaging 60%.We are currently with the North as far Education is concern. At that time Nigeria govt. was using the quota system and 12 applicants were selected from each state. Are we playing with our kids life? This is a price all of us will pay if it is not addressed immediately. My people speak up on issues such as this one.Getting the attention of government is like teaching an elephant a tap dance when you find a soft spot, you start poking.. PDP in Enugu State should give Governor a complete free hand to recurit professionals who are capable and qualify to do the job. The Governor will not do the work alone,he needs your support.Thank you. Ed Neboh Washington DC Read below what prompted my second posting on the status of Education in Enugu state. This is not a sitution that will get better by dragging your feet. The threat is real. Friday, March 19, 2010 Nigerian Punch Enugu schools yet to adopt new curriculum - Investigation Adelani Adepegba, Limited access to the Universal Basic Education curriculum by teachers has raised questions about the quality of teaching and academic standards in public schools in Enugu State. advertisement Investigations by our correspondent indicated that many teachers were still using the outdated curriculum that could no longer meet the needs of the pupils in a rapidly changing world. The new UBE curriculum was introduced in 2005 by the Federal Government. The former curriculum was dropped because it could not meet the goals of acquisition of entrepreneurial skills, strategic communication skills, functional literacy and numeracy and had no support for reducing poverty, creating jobs and wealth for products of the nation's school system. The new curriculum was believed to have taken into accounts the targets of National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy of value re-orientation, poverty eradication, job creation and wealth generation. In the new curriculum, subjects such as basic science and basic technology replaced primary science and introductory technology; cultural and creative arts are presented an integrated subject, while Information and Communication Technology and French are core subjects. Though many teachers in junior secondary schools in Enugu metropolis have been given copies of the UBE curriculum, findings showed that majority of teachers, particularly those in the rural areas have not been provided with the important document. As such, the affected teachers still teach outmoded topics and their pupils do not have the benefit of being instructed in new core and elective subjects prepared to reduce over loading of the curriculum contents. The affected teachers, who expressed concern at a sensitisation and advocacy workshop on the new nine-year Basic Education Curriculum workshop organised by the Nigerian Educational and Research Council in Enugu admitted that they had never seen the new curriculum since it was launched in 2008. The teachers said that they were using textbooks not compliant with the curriculum and expressed worries about the fate of their pupils in the coming external examination. The Executive Secretary, NERDC, Prof. Godswill Obioma, had expressed surprise over the teachers' disclosure, saying the document had been in use in other states of the federation.
