Name: Karen Wirth on May 15, 2009School/Organization: Beech Tree Elem.Comments: Maintaining the FLES program at our school is critical not only to the future of our students, but to our country. For our student and our country to be compete in the global economy a 2nd language will be critical. Language learning must begin at the earliest age possible and by removing it from our elementary school will have an adverse inpact on their abilities to ever establish their 2nd language knowledge.Flag

Name: Laura Mozeleski on May 15, 2009School/Organization: Brookfield E.S.Comments: This program is an incredible bargain for the county given the broad and deep educational benefits it provides, particularly to students challenged in language arts. There are many important priorities for limited funds, but FLES costs very little compared to the results it delivers.Flag

Name: Rose Malatesta on May 15, 2009School/Organization: Clearview ElementaryComments: FLES is a wonderful program for out children. Learning a second language is much easier at an early age and it helps in other areas of learning as well. Please do NOT cut funding for FLES. It is such a small part of the budget and does so much for the children. Thank you.Flag

Name: Dana Condemi on May 16, 2009School/Organization: Brookfield Elementary School/PTA memberComments: In just one year my son went from speaking no other language other than English to now speaking words in Spanish, Chinese and Korean. It all began with the FLES program in which he received Spanish lesson at least 3x/week. This opened his amazing first grade mind to a new language. Now...he speaks Spanish, and has picked up Chinese and Korean easily, and...more importantly, he speaks with little to no accent! Amazing in my opinion. Why would we even consider getting rid of a program that has the ability to teach beyond the classroomFlag

Name: John Hughes on May 18, 2009School/Organization: Providence ElementaryComments: By cutting funding to this program, you deny hundreds of children the opportunity to be exposed to such a rich culture and language, many of whom would not have the financial mean by which to otherwise secure such an educational experience. Such a shame this would be considered among items to cut!Flag
