Name: Doug Forsman on Feb 23, 2010Comments: If we want Albemarle to remain as one of the "Best Places to Live" in the country, then we need to provide funding to maintain a strong school system. It is not merely a coincidence that year in and year out Albemarle county is rated a very desirable area to live and raise a family and that we have a successful schools.Flag

Name: Peggy Gilges on Feb 23, 2010Comments: It is now incumbent on Albemarle County to step up and support our local schools in the face of unprecedented cuts in State funding. Not only is it our shared responsibility to educate our children well, it's also in the long-term interests of our community to maintain the quality of our schools. In response to the severe school funding cuts made by the State, I ask that the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors act in the best interests of the community and on behalf of the children in our school system by fully funding the ACPS's budget request through an increase in property taxes.Flag

Name: Victor Schiller on Feb 23, 2010Comments: By not funding the Albemarle schools you risk sending our local economy into a "Death Spiral" downward. As the schools suffer -> People leave the area -> Property Values Drop -> Tax base drops -> school funding drops -> the schools suffer -> repeat until the community turns into a ghost town (see West Virginia, Michigan, or Ohio).Flag

Name: Brett Richey on Feb 23, 2010Comments: It is ok to cut fat, but these cuts are into meat and bone. All residents benefit from strong public schools, even empty nesters, people without children, and private school families. The funding must increase to cover the cuts into meat and bone. This is an Educational Earthquake. Many thanks to the empty nesters/no kids/private school families who gladly support an increase in tax revenue to fund these schools. It is the right thing to do and it helps you in the long run, too.Flag

Name: Marjorie Shepherd on Feb 23, 2010Comments: Our community repeatedly claims schools as the number one asset we have, the thing with the highest satisfaction rating. I don't hear the clamber for mediocrity in our schools, for lower standards, lower student teacher ratios.... The board of supervisors are the only ones pushing for these cuts based on fear of raising taxes. I am not rich, but living in a community with good schools is worth the money it takes to fund them. Even though my children are done with schools - I know my property value, my quality of life, and my security is all dependent on living where there are great schools.Flag
