Category: Human Rights Targets: US State Department; United Nations; International Court of Justice Region: Tunisia Background (preamble): Since December 17th 2010, Tunisians have been uprising against censorship, injustice political corruption and economic deprivation. Unarmed young protesters have been violently oppressed. Dogs, tear gas and bullets are the techniques the toppled government used. More than 200 civilians were shot, thousands injured. The ex-president Ben Ali, his wife Leila Trabelsi and other relatives have fled the country. Tunisians are still pressuring the interim government to protect the newly born freedom and to recover the stolen assets by Ben Ali and his clan.

Petition: As American citizens and residents, we support the universal values of freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of media. Consequently, we affirm Tunisians’ right to protest peacefully and we denounce the use of violence against unarmed protesters. To stand with Tunisians in their legitimate quest for justice, we urge you to support the International Arrest of the president Ben Ali and his relatives. Support democracy in Tunisia by joining other nations, such as France, Switzerland and Germany, in freezing the assets of Ben Ali and his family. Support justice by helping bring Ben Ali to a fair trial for the war crimes he has committed against Tunisia and its citizens.
