Name: Ray Van Stone on Apr 16, 2004Comments: The Stadium has been a home to thousands of amateur baseball players over many years. It is a recreational facility, the same as Bucks Hill Park, Chase Park House or North End Rec. All provide recreational opportunities to the taxpayers of Waterbury, and their children. The Stadium should not be view as some sort of cash cow, its purpose is not to generate revenue; it generates enjoyment to the players who use it, and their tax-paying families, chipped paint and all. Revenue from minor league pro sports, or in this case semi-pro, is fool's gold. The financial record of pro soccer in this state, and around the country for that matter, is a well-documented failure. Still, single-minded proponets of the idea are still looking for some other unsuspecting municipality to fall for their line, drink their kool aid as it were. Beware of strangers bearing gifts.
