The petition was suggested and created by Peter Morris, the brother of the late Claire Morris, who lost her life at the hands of her husband, Malcolm Webster, in 1994. Malcolm Webster was convicted of Claire’s murder in May 2011 and sentenced to life imprisonment with a recommendation that he serve a minimum of 30 thirty years. This petition aims to demonstrate to the Scottish Parliament that there is widespread support for the introduction of new legislation as regard to the support and assistance offered to the victims of crime and their families.

I have been reading through the comments left here and I am truly humbled by the strength people are showing in sharing their own difficult experiences. Taking this step has been overwhelming for me personally but knowing that so many others understand the urgency of this change keeps me focused on the road ahead.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to support this cause. If we could push just a little further to hit that first hundred mark it would mean the world to me and show that people are truly paying attention.

Families suffer for years after these crimes while the legal process drags on without any support. Serious change is needed.

Still makes me sick thinking about that case. We need to do better for victims families.

It is about time the system actually looked after the families instead of just worrying about the criminals rights. Claire deserved so much better.

My heart goes out to the family. No one should ever have to go through what they did and then be treated like an afterthought by the courts.
