The NATO attacks on Libya have far exceeded the UN mandate that was provided for by UN resolution 1973 (2011). The Council authorized Member States, acting nationally or through regional organizations or arrangements, to take all necessary measures to protect civilians under threat of attack in the country. They did not allow the international alliance to attack and kill the innocent folk themselves. Pre-teen children have been killed by the NATO bombing. The bombing has been supposedly carried out against military targets and guess what NATO may just call these deaths collateral damage. Libyan military attacks against rebels have also led to civilian deaths which is the basis for the UN action. Those deaths too were accidental, the Libyan forces are targeting rebels who wish to force regime change. Does a country not have the right to self-determination? Why do the US, UN and NATO have to decide how the country is supposed to function and who in fact is the rightful government? Is it just one which is in deference to the US? This petition is being created just to say that we may be insignificant individuals in this world, but we stand up against this gross use of force by NATO which was supposed to just enforce a no-fly zone and protect civilians. Instead the NATO action now is a "crime against humanity". Do support this petition if you will. I stand against the NATO definition of protection which is "oops .. collateral damage .. but hey we are the saviors of the civilians here to enforce regime change"!
