WHEREAS: The Falls Church High School (FCHS) families, teachers and neighbors have a proud tradition of community support; and
WHEREAS: the FCHS community hasreviewed the application for the Fairfax Leadership Academy's (FLA)Charter School and believes that it does not increase community services for at-risk students beyond what is already being provided at FCHS; and
WHEREAS: FCHS currently serves at-risk students with a model Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and dual enrollment with Northern Virginia Community College- both of whichare part of the proposed Charter School's plan to improve performance for at-risk students; and
WHEREAS: the FCHS community believes that opening the FLA under its current plan will have negative impacts on FCHS that have not been considered;
THEREFORE, we the undersigned ask that the Fairfax County School Board:
Reject the proposal from the Fairfax Leadership Academy to open a charter high school at the Graham Road site, should that proposal pass the State Education Board.
FCHS is doing just fine with the AVID program. We dont need another school splitting up our resources.
