The county has finally agreed to stop the fee waivers and will prioritize our local recreational funding moving forward. Watching our community secure these resources for our children after so much uncertainty feels like an incredible relief. We have to keep our eyes on the budget process to ensure this …

We, the undersigned, insist that County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and the County Council support Baltimore County families by immediately enforcing all Open Space fees and fully funding volunteer supported recreation programs.

Open Space fees are assessed by Baltimore County when developers don’t include sufficient Open Space in their residential projects. The fees are then used by the department of Recreation and Parks to protect the quality of life within our communities by ensuring shared infrastructure keeps pace with new development. By waiving fees for major development projects, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz is taking desperately needed resources from Baltimore County families and giving them to wealthy developers.

We, the undersigned, ask Mr. Kamanetz to support our neighborhoods.

Seeing one hundred people stand up for our neighborhood parks is overwhelming for me. My own kids rely on these programs every single week. Thank you for choosing to protect our local spaces.

Watching this list grow reminds me why we cannot let developers prioritize their profits over our kids having a safe place to play. We need a final surge to hit our next goal before I walk into the meeting with these officials. Please get this link in front of your neighbors so we can show them how many of us care about our community infrastructure.

Please consider adding more parks and open space to Towson, downtown area as well. The area has an F grade from the American Lung Association for ozone. WE need more open space for the health and well being of our citizens. Some nice pedestrian areas and a protected bike path would be great!

Stop the giveaways to big developers. They aren't needed. They want to build in Towson. Fairly supporting open space and quality of life will increase the desire ability and value of their own projects without reducing the value of my home or our quality of life.

TRC is using the same fields we've have for 40 years with programs that have gone from under 20 players (TRC Girls' Lacrosse in the early 90's when my mom began the program) to hundreds of girls now. We need the space and maintainence for our kids and our community. Let's do better, Towson.

If we lose open space to development, then families will move to areas with more open space for families. Over developed areas are not attractive to families. Towson is nearing this.

Its absurd to think Baltimore County would waive such fees when the majority of other like communities and developers alike know its value. The mere fact this is still being debated shows the disconnect between those who govern are area and those of us who have lived here and raised families here for decades.

There are many ways to incentivize development and growth. Eliminating green space or chocking off funding for green space shouldn’t be one of them. Our athletic fields are in a serious state of disrepair. I suggest you find another way.
