Final supporters
The Westwood Village Improvement Assocation wants to create new public space in the heart of the Westwood Village as a part of the “People St” program. The Plaza is planned to revamp the North section of Broxton Ave. by covering the pavement with an artistic design and with planters, tables, chairs, umbrellas and more.
WHAT IS A PLAZA?
✴ A plaza is public open space that is closed to vehicular traffic. A colorful, patterned treatment is applied to the street, while large planters and other elements like tables and chairs define the plaza area.
WHERE WOULD THE BROXTON AVE PLAZA GO?
✴ The Plaza would go on Broxton Ave, between Weyburn Ave and the east/west alley south of Le Conte Ave.
WHY A PLAZA?
✴ Converts redundant street space into a people place for events, outdoor dining, and activities
✴ Supports and enlivens local business by creating a walkable pedestrian destination
✴ Produce a high-quality streetscape experience and improve the day-to-day life of the street

I have been reading through all your thoughts on how we could transform this space and honestly I am just amazed by the vision you all have for our neighborhood. It is the community input that actually gives this project its heart so please keep telling me what you want to see happen on Broxton Avenue.

Students and residents deserve more public open space in Westwood Village. Broxton is already closed for Farmers Markets with no issues. Making it permanent would create a "town square" for Westwood Village, enhancing social interaction, raising property values, and creating a shared space.
Will be really great for residents an tourists....and maybe help to contain the long lines outside Diddy Riese!
This project will immeasurably enhance the quality of life of Westwood residents and visitors to the area. Projects like this create pedestrian zones that benefit local businesses.
The obvious choice for a plaza is the part of Broxton already closed off to cars for the Farmer's Market. Why not that area?
broxton is the perfect place for a pedestrian plaza. I can imagine people enjoying a coffee or dinner in the plaza before heading to a movie. It would complement the farmers market too. Maybe a fun game like bocce ball or a giant chessboard can add some fun.

This could help cement and focus the existing walkability and street culture in Westwood. Excited to see this in my new backyard!
