The goal of this is to have developed countries such as the USA and Canada pay developing countries to preserve and restore their rain forests. They plan to reduce deforestation by encouraging large-scale logging companies to replant the forests they take down; they hope to achieve this by offering more carbon credits to companies who participate in reforestation. (A carbon credit is a certain amount of greenhouse gases that can be emitted into our atmosphere per company per year.)
