These are the roads I grew up on and love to visit when I come home. These old roads are the veins of communities for many years. Please keep them open and accessible to the public.Flag

Name: Dean Enix on Feb 12, 2013Comments: My earliest memories include picnicking in Lone Tree Canyon, with family & friends & the community. Yearly, we have a family reunion in this canyon. Changing the access to Lone Tree would directly impact me and my friends and my family. I am in favor of making no changes to this county road and am opposed to making it a private road!Flag

I can't imagine that the small amount of traffic is actually a hazard or a liaibility. Let common sense prevail over an attempt to close access to yet another scenic vista.Flag

Name: Connie Peterson on Feb 13, 2013Comments: Please keep the road open. The local community has many good reasons that have been mentioned. I grew up near this canyon and even road horses with my sister there. My grandmother (Phyllis Peterson) and father (Derald Peterson) also enjoyed the canyon. There seems good reasons to keep it open and poor reasons for making it a private road.Flag

Name: John & Irma Baker on Feb 14, 2013Comments: As a old timer in the area I have lot of memories of the canyon and the road. The best known and most popular site in the area. I feel that if the people (Dowers) living there want the road open than that ends the discussion right there. The party wanting to close it for everyone else knew the road was there when they puchased the land!!!Flag

Name: Caroline Adolphson on Feb 15, 2013Comments: as much use as this road has, it should be kept open to the public. Many people from the surrounding area use this. Hugh Dowers and all their family, the Chugwater community, churches and picnicers. I know I have been going there for sixty-nine years and enjoy the beauty. Also it is the home of Hugh and Rose Dowers. It would be a shame if they had to go unlock the gate to get to town or to have family in their home.Flag

Name: Don Hodgson on Feb 15, 2013Comments: Please add my name in opposition to the possible closing of the Lone Tree road. It seems to me that there really is not a good enough reason to close it in light of the fact that the local Dowers' family is receptive to having people go in to the canyon for recreational purposes. In essence, it is a beautiful location that provides enjoyment and various activities, from picnics to hunting Indian artifacts, that it does have a truly utilitarian value. Moreover, it is a "historiic road," built during the Great Depression, that is a part of our county and region's historic past, and which in itself elicits memories of a past when schools, churches and organization had picnics and gatherings in the canyon. On a more personal note, growing up in Chugwater, I well remember traveling through the canyon on basketball trips to the teams/towns in Goshen Hole, and the return trip in our school's small buses that might involve the players helping to push the cars of townspeople up the snowy and slippery hairpin curves back up that canyon. And, we had school picnics in the canyon that were unforgettable. Yes, I realize that there is a great deal of nostalgia associated with that canyon, yet such memorable feelings remain with hundreds of people in Goshen and Platte counties. It would be gratifying I believe to have the county commissioners keep in mind that this canyon and its historic road are a part of our history; and is really "dear to the hearts of many," while at the same time still a means to serve our area's people in respect to enjoyable and recreational choices.Flag

Some things just need to stay the way they are, why change what doesn't need changed, it is such a great experience and adventure to see history as it has always been.Flag
