HURRY, SIGN THE PETITION!
SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO THE 2 YEAR SUSPENSION OF OHIO HISTORIC PRESERVATION TAX CREDIT!

The Ohio Senate has proposed a 2-year suspension of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit. This suspension would be DEVASTATING for Ohio revitalization efforts and historic preservation.

Only 1 individual is permitted to testify on behalf of the historic tax credits so this petition will represent those who oppose the suspension. This petition will be sent directly to Senator Scott Oelslager, chair of the Finance Committee.

Recent projects benefiting from the historic tax credits include The LeVeque Tower, The YWCA, The Julian, The Atlas Building, Grant Commons, Cristo Rey High School, and Victorian Heritage, among others. From its inception, historic tax credits have been approved for 244 projects to rehabilitate 320 historic buildings in 49 different Ohio communities. The program is projected to leverage more $3.4 billion in private redevelopment funding and federal tax credits directly through the rehabilitation projects. (source: Ohio.gov)

All State Historic Preservation Tax Credits that are not completed and certified by July 1, 2015 are in danger, including pending applications!

Reaching one thousand signatures serves as a powerful reminder of how many people value the history embedded in our buildings. Knowing that this many residents recognize the economic and cultural necessity of these credits provides significant strength as we prepare for upcoming discussions.

Historic Preservation Tax credits have saved over 100 blighted buildings since the program started in 2007 - this program has transformed communities - making them safer for our tax-paying residents and more attractive to investors. This program is good for business and good for Ohio residents!

As the Business Association Chair for East Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, I strongly oppose suspending the historic preservation tax credit. We are a community with three historic districts, which we are currently working to redevelop. This would have devastating results to our efforts.

The Historic Preservation Tax Credit is critical to restoring old Ohio cities such as Cincinnati, Cleveland, and my city of Youngstown. It incentivizes the restoration of history rather than encouraging new building in the suburbs.

Our neighborhood, Larchmere in Cleveland, just went through the effort of becoming a National Register Historic District. Our prospects for revitalizing the neighborhood would be seriously hindered if the State of Ohio suspends the Historic Tax Credit program.

I am aware of several projects that have closed on financing based on state commitments for state historic credits and have begun construction. This proposed moritorium will have devastating effects on these projects. Strike this amendment from the budget immediately.

This is a terrible legislative idea, and according to the State's ROI model will cost over $180 million in Hamilton County for just the 2015 tax credit season alone. I'm very interested to find out who this stunningly irresponsible State Senator is.

This is a critical tool to spur redevelopment of historic structures.

I work in a historic building downtown. There is nothing like the old buildings. So beautiful.
