    Comments: Stop the witch hunt!   Mahatma Ghandi is reputed to have remarked, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” I am appalled at the reaction of some Catholic Christians in the school of the parish of St. Agatha (my spiritual home for nearly twenty years) to the accusations made against their and my Pastor of twelve years. Are we ignorant of the whole truth about our Church’s scandal? Have we not learned about the keystone of our legal system? Have we no compassion?   Without apologizing for erring priests that through their sins resound Ghandi’s admonishment, those who have delved beyond the newspapers’ headlines and the broadcast media’s sound bites know that while resulting in a most salutary cleansing of the priesthood, the hunt for errant priests area fraught with countless false accusations, and in some cases vendettas, primarily motivated by money (e.g., Catholic priests have the lowest incidence of pedophilia of any group, whether religious or profane). Which brings to mind another, often cited remark by an infamous serial bank robber; when asked why he had to rob banks his reply was, “Because that’s where the money is!” And this is a major reason why our Church has been targeted by the unscrupulous.   Our parish, in particular, knows that many accusations against priests are false, for our Pastor has not been found guilty of previous similar accusations. Moreover, in our system of justice there is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Why the rush or our brother and sister parishioners to prejudge the Pastor? Has our parish family found a single instance of child-abuse behavior by their Pastor of twelve years? Isn’t it absolutely evident that even if our Pastor behaved inappropriately twenty years ago he would have to be not only sinful but stupid to commit such an act now, given the scrutiny he has suffered for the past 5 years? I do not believe that our Pastor is sinful of the accusations and he is certainly not stupid. Indeed, in my humble opinion, there is no safer place for a child right now that in our parish school.   Finally, can’t our accusing fellow parishioners understand the psychological abuse they are inflicting on their spiritual director? Can’t they see the impact their actions are having on his fellow priests, our brothers in faith, on whom all Catholics depend for the generous grace our Father imbues in us through the Eucharist?     Comments: I know inside of my heart that father Rolando is innocent , he is a wonderful and lovely person and incredibly hard worker as a pastor in our church. Both of my daughters are altar servers for more than three years for his masses and I'm very pleased by the kind manner that he treats them every other mass.
