It has come to our attention that stipends are being taken away from frosh sports at Desert Mirage High School. The reason behind this action is that Desert Mirage High School does not compete at the frosh level. As a result, we want the Coachella Valley Unified School District and the Coachella Valley Teachers Association to update the language in their joint contract as it pertains to the assignment of paid stipends for coaches in each of the following sport the school competes in CIF. • Cross Country – We ask that cross country be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Golf (Boys) – We ask that boys golf be assigned two (2) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Varsity Coach. • Golf (Girls) – We ask that girls golf be assigned two (2) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Varsity Coach. • Baseball – We ask that baseball be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Basketball (Boys) – We ask that boys basketball be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Basketball (Girls) – We ask that girls basketball be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Soccer (Boys) – We ask that boys soccer be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Soccer (Girls) – We ask that girls soccer be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Softball – We ask that softball be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Swimming – We ask that swimming be assigned two (2) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Varsity Coach. • Tennis (Boys) – We ask that boy’s tennis be assigned two (2) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Varsity Coach. • Tennis (Girls) – We ask that girl’s tennis be assigned two (2) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Varsity Coach. • Track & Field – We ask that track & field be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Volleyball – We ask that volleyball be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. • Wrestling – We ask that wrestling be assigned four (4) coach’s stipends; one for Head Varsity Coach, one for Assistant Varsity Coach, one for Head Junior Varsity Coach and one for Assistant Junior Varsity Coach. The assigning of these paid positions are crucial as many of these sport teams are currently under staffed and unable to serve our students in a safe manner. In addition, we all know sports are an important component in creating a balance individual and have traditionally been a motivational tool for all students to do better in their academics. We, the undersigned, are concerned parents, coaches, and teachers who urge our leaders to act now to add the appropriate coaches needed to run an effective and competitive sports program for all teams at Desert Mirage High School.
