carolinepeople should be able to use the pool or gym any day of the week, surely one workout a week is better than no workout at all and many people dont have the time through the week and as the shops wont open on a sunday most people have to do their shopping on a saturday leaving no time for leisure, opening the pool will be of great benefit to all
Barry MacdonaldIt's about time the few in control stop trying to push their own religious beliefs onto everybody else. For too long the Western Isles Council has been prejudiced against all people not subscribing to the same beliefs and points of view as themselves. They sit in their Ivory Tower dictating the day to day lives of the people of Lewis, discriminating blatantly to suit their own whims and antiquated view of the World
christine harbournei always thought thet the sports centre was closed due to religious reasons like everything else on thr island sunday on lewis has to be the most boring day ever all u can do is goto the pub or engies big deal if sports centre was open i can garuntee it would be very busy as its the day no1 works in stornoway and wot else have they to do ?

AnonymousAs the lewis sport centre is closed on a Sunday do we pay less for our membership as we have only got 6 days instead o 7 that we can use it? Get the doors open and let us show you how many would use it on Sunday. We dont make people go on flights on Sunday it is choice. It looks like they are trying to make us go to church or if we dont we have no rights at all. by time this island mad the most o what it has and enjoy it 7 days.
JoHN MACLEODThis and, not this or. Fully support this - go for it.
p harwoodwhy is it ok for the pubs to open on a sunday and people to get drunk (I have nothing against that if thats what they want to do) but yet familys cannot go out together to enjoy the sports facilities offered on the island.

paul plattHaving 4 young children the sport centre opening on a sunday would be wonderful. If thoes against the 7 day opening do not wish to use the facilites then that is there choice however there are so so many of us whom would use the facility if only we had the freedom of choice to do so!!!!!!!!

dianne luptonThe sports centre opening on a sunday would be really welcomed. Having young children i often find myself struggling to find activites for us as a family to enjoy on a sunday with the unpredictable weather. The weekend i feel is family time having worked a 5 day week only having 1 day where i can take the children out i feel is extreamly unfare. I myself would never dream of restricting someones way of life due to my own belifes how it can offend people what the people in the sports centre are doing is beyond me.

Jenny Macleodopen everything on sundays!!
mairi tinneyWhat would be the harm in being open on a Sunday, surely this would give families something healthy to do together, nobody is forcing you to go but it would be a nice option to have, surely all of these things are better than going to the pub on a sunday?
James R H BrownIt should be open on a Sunday. If my children were younger, we would be there every Sunday.

Christine MacDonaldWhat a joke!! Are WIIC really serious? No swimming because why?? Answers please.
Anonymousthis should be allowed open,as it is unfair to be allowed to go to the pubs on sunday but not to use the centre

Anne GadsdenI respect the rights of those who wish to observe the Lewis Sabbath, and for 7 years I enjoyed the peacefulness that goes with it. However, I also respect the rights of those who are not sabbatarians (of whatever faith or creed), who have not been granted the freedom to spend this day as they wish.

E. MacLeodIt beggars belief that I can drink alcohol on Sunday in facilities licensed by the council but I cannot use the Sports Centre to safeguard my health.
David GilmourThe council claims that they do not wish to open the sports centre out of consideration for the local amenity. I live in one of only a few residential properties that can plainly see the sports centre. I have never been asked whether I or any member of my family would object to its opening on a Sunday.
