Sports Centres open 7 days a week in Lewis & Harris

The petition

The Western Isles Council(WIIC)has chosen to prohibit the people of Lewis and Harris from using the sports centres on Sundays. Apparently this is not due to religious reasons. The sports centres in Uist and Barra have been open on Sunday for years.

The Western Isles has the highest incidence of premature death due to coronary heart disease, the highest obesity level and one of the highest levels of dental caries in Scotland.

This Council needs to be taken to task over this appalling prohibition of exercise facilities on Sundays (half the weekend) for the majority of the residents of the Western Isles.

We, the undersigned urge the Council to reconsider this ban and allow us the freedom to enjoy our free time in a way that we see fit.
