Dear Homeowner, Our Municipal Goverment is proposing an increase in Development charges associated with New Homes in the City of Greater Sudbury. What this means to you the consumer is an additional charge upwards of 10k on the the purchase of a new home, this coupled with HST legislation that will take effect July 01, 2010 will make owning a New Home for most a dream and not a reality !!It is precisely out of concern for homebuyers, who ultimately pay these development charges that we have decided to take a stand and intend to protect our clients at the upcoming council meeting on June 15,09. Believe it or not, we have a lot of empathy for the municipalities who have been saddled with the cost of provincial downloading and who need far more provincial and federal infrastructure funding, particularly for roads, transit, sewer and water services. The development charges issue is not about home builders versus municipalities. It's about housing affordability and right now, homebuyers are teetering on that brink. Economic growth is at risk, communities are struggling through this economic downturn and frankly this is the icing on the cake that may or may not collapse whatever market is left.
