Styrofoam is a big problem in the world. Not just in California. When you throw away or recycle that styrofoam cup or to go box, it will go to the landfills, and it will stay there until it decomposes. It takes 500 years-forever to decompose styrofoam. Some of the styrofoam that is "recycled", and goes to landfills, slips out of the landfills and into the oceans and the forests, killing wild life. About 25 billion styrofoam cups and to-go boxes go into landfills each year. I did the math of 25 billion times five hundred, to get the number of styrofoam to-go boxes and styrofoam cups that will be in landfills after 500 years. I got 12 trillion, 500 billion styrofoam cups and boxes. Only the 25 billion styrofoam cups and boxes that were in the landfills 500 years before that, will be breaking down. The other 12,475,000,000,000 will start breaking down in another 499 years, 498 years, 497 years, etc. Styrofoam is not only bad for the environment, but it is also bad for your health. When you put your warm or cold food or drink into the styrofoam container or cup, the polystyrene chemicals that are in the styrofoam, will end up leaking into the food or drink, making it toxic. You can get a couple of different health problems from using styrofoam too often too store food or drink liquid from. You can get a couple things such as irritation of the skin, irritation of the eyes, gastrointestinal effects, as well as headaches, depression, weakness, minor kidney failure, and fatigue.

I really hope that you sign this petition, because this is a real problem. Thank you so much.

Sincerely,

Alexa Davis.
