Name: Brandon Grimm on Jan 30, 2008Comments: Progress is nice, but we all know the new and pricey development in Lawrence is to the WEST of the older, wiser, seasoned Lawrence. You know, westward expansion How about "manifest destiny" anyone "To the west" is where your building belongs-- Not on the edge of the beloved KU campus. I know I don't want to see Lawrence's HISTORIC skyline destroyed by a building that appears taller than Frasier Hall. Frasier Hall-- It's an icon! Say, you want to build a tall building near campus, how about rebuilding the original (minus structural flaws) Frasier Hall, on campus! Everybody would win. Now THAT was a beautiful building for the ages.Flag

Name: Christopher Bianculli on Jan 30, 2008Comments: I don't believe that this luxury inn would be consistent with the feel and atmosphere of the surrounding community. This is a community of students living in housing that is affordable for college students. Building this hotel would raise the cost of living in the surrounding areas pushing students out and destroying the community. Also the Inn is to be constructed of a building that housed iconic Lawrence businesses, namely the crossing and the first ever Yello Sub. If this building is to be torn down and something new is to be put in its place, I think that the newly constructed building should be something that houses businesses that would be appealing and affordable for students. Finally, wouldn't making a seven story hotel at the end of Oread St. dwarf our beloved Student Union. I think out of sheer principal this building should not be erected because the brashness of the message this would be sending. Student: "And this is our Student Union." Parent: "So what's that taller building next to the Union" Student: "Um... a luxury hotel." Parent: "Oh...."Flag

Name: Jillian Strobel on Feb 1, 2008Comments: I live very close to this area and I don't want to have my neighborhood invaded by rich people who don't even live here. I can afford to go to the Crossing and Yello Sub, but I won't be able to go to this high end inn which will be right next door. I know this area is referred to as the student ghetto, but people call it that because the places are cheap and I think I speak for all of my neighbors as well when I say we need the prices to stay cheap so we can get through school.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 10, 2008Comments: This proposal does not fit the needs of the current occupants of the Oread and KU area. The area does not need a hotel, especially of that grandeur. This will most likely not be a money making business due to the guests of Lawrence would not want to stay on the busy KU campus, surrounded by other housing filled with students. A more logical proposal would be something that is more targeted to the people in the neighborhood, which is mostly students. In addition, this structure will not fit the current style of buildings that are currently in the area as well. Adding a seven foot hotel will most likely be an eyesore to the neighborhood.Flag
