I believe it is as important for Father's to bond with their baby's as much as Mother's. This must change. Equal rights!!Flag

Name: Mark Gretton on Dec 12, 2006Comments: As a male nurse and a lecturer in nursing I concur completely with this. This is the sort of anomaly that will have to be addressed if we are to be more succesful in attracting men into the profession. The current situation is clearly unethical and probably illegal.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 12, 2006Comments: I am a student midwife who had maternity leave between Dec December 2004 and December 2005, I have not received a penny in maternity payments! Very unjust and unfair, the system is wrong (both for male students requesting paternity leave and female students who fall just outside the cut off dates for maternity leave)Flag

Name: Sam Wright (student Mental Health Nurse) on Dec 12, 2006Comments: The nursing course is hard enough to complete without such added obstacles and complications. Many of us already have to work part time to subsidise our bursaries and all try and keep as normal a family life as possible. I trust this will be looked at as a matter of urgency and policy amended accordingly as quite clearly is discriminating against men. Good luck Luke and well done for flagging this up.Flag

I think fathers should be entitled to the same as mothers and think this is discrimination from what is supposed to be a "caring profession", as it greatly recognised in other professions.Flag
