I honestly cannot believe I am typing this but they finally gave in and agreed to extend the hours for the music studios and the library because they actually listened for once. It feels so surreal that we pulled this off after all the back and forth about access and …

Have you noticed that the Uni is cutting back the opening hours more and more each year?

Would you like the Uni to be open longer than it is?

Then please sign this petition!

This began with interest towards the studios, which need to be open longer for those studying popular music, sound tech and music tech.

However, this has expanded as many students and lecturers have complained that various facilities need to be available for longer, including the mac suites, practice rooms and the library.

If you are suffering from the same restrictions please sign the petition! I need as many signatures as possible.

Please see the facebook page, Atrium - Uni of South Wales (student petition) to see more information on the progress being made and information on the student protest to be held in January if we don't see results before then.

I honestly cannot believe how quickly things are moving now because it feels like just yesterday I was sitting in the studio frustrated by the locked doors and hoping someone else even cared. It turns out so many of you do care about these hours and reading your stories about struggling to finish projects is genuinely what keeps me going when I feel like giving up on all this paperwork.

I feel that paying for three years of education. I should have access to the university at all times, some of us work which means we come in at different times to use the facilitys. It seams their cutting important access's including the SU. Its pathetic that where not even asked.

As a stop motion student, the later the university was open. The easier it will be for me to animate. As i don't have access to the facilities anywhere else.

I think it's a bit ridiculous how the library is only open until 9pm during the week, and just 4pm at weekends when there are universities all over the UK which have their libraries open 24/7. I know these are usually Russell Group Uni's, but how does USW expect to attain better grades and keep the Skill set credentials (now lost) if there is such a limit on the timings students can work on site?

How about opening the studios during the summer as well? £29,000 fo 3 years and the studios are unavailable for 12 months of that time!!! Whenever I looked last summer they were empty...

Students must now work more hours at irregular times to afford the increased cost of university. It is important the facilities we pay for are open when we need them. Students should be able to access their work at weekends and evenings especially if it is unportable such as the TV and Film Set Design student models in Atlantic House.

The time available in the studios is now inadequate to say the least. This leaves students struggling to get anywhere near the time they need to complete assignments and effectively eliminates the ability to have a full weekend of recording, as would be typical in industry. Especially, considering the price students are now paying, I would have thought the Atrium would be much more concerned than they are about making sure they a delivering a satisfactory service to the students and i'm glad someone like Jess is speaking out about this.
