As a student I see the corruptness in school education and educators including standardized tests. Students should be given the liberty to choose what core classes they want that corresponds to their future careers and interests. By forcing students to take classes such as chemistry, algebra, etc. we are giving them the O.K. to be less enthusiastic about learning. Students will have no ambition after high school, they need to know that learning is a wonderful experience. Educators are also responsible as well. In today's modern world, there are teachers that do not possess the talent of teaching. They cannot master the art of explaining things more eloquently and are at times... lethargic. Standardized tests have been famous for determining the effective and ineffective teachers of America. But that is just merely an excuse made by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. NCLB was signed into law by former President George Bush on January 8, 2002. This was "reauthorization" of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The core of NCLB was to measure the knowledge in "student achievement" and to hold states and schools more liable for student progress. Although this was used to "help" students across America, it seemed schools were failing drastically. The Center on Policy found that 48% of the nation's public schools failed to meet NCLB goals in 2011. This is up from the 39% in 2010 and the 29% in 2006. The Adequate Yearly Progress believes the problem that NCLB has is "inconsistency." It is reported that each state creates thier own "proficiency goals." But if a school fails to make AYP for two repeated years or more, it is then considered a "need improvement" and are required to submit to particular "interventions" instructed by NCLB. NCLB has also led to a huge increase in testing. NCLB requires state testing for every student in grades 3-8. The program has also led to another explosion of standardized exams, including "benchmark" tests often administered 3-10 times per year. American students are considered to be the "most tested on Earth." Sometime in his presidency, President Barack Obama's administration added an additional $4.3 billion dollars for school administrators to compete in the "Race to the Top" in order to qualify for mulitmillion dollar grants. Many need to understand that students are not products they are humans, and by using a test that is equivalent to the weight of a magazine will only make students improvish their succes. It is not possible for a test score to determine a student's knowledge, only the student can determine that and be aware of their own weaknesses. By enforcing these gruesome tests down a child's throat will only teach them to despise learning and they will lose the zeal to aspire. Please let's help America by bringing awareness about how corrupt and sad the school system is! We need to fight for the future conquerers of America!
