Name: Lori Bracey on May 30, 2007Comments: I do not agree with the above petition in it's entirety, because I don't want the school staff to spend valuable time acting as "uniform cops" rather than utilizing the time for teaching. I do believe, however, that the new uniform policy is an unnecessary financial burden for many families. "French Toast" manufactures quality pants that sit at the natural waist (rather than the low-rise version). My children have always outgrown them long before they have worn them out and they are reasonably priced. In addition, the Lloyd Plaid has been a tradition at St. Rita, and I would like to see the tradition continue in the lower grades. At a time when so many families are finding it difficult to keep up with tuition expenses, I fear the costs associated with a complete overhaul of the school uniform may be detrimental to maintaining our current student enrollment.Flag

We know what is right and what is wrong, we all get the letters reinforcing the uniform policy. My biggest issue is cost and convenience. We have 3 kids in St. Ritas and with the tuition increases every year and now we are hit with the new uniform policy which going to cost us $45.00 a uniform per kid. We both work full time and one of our jobs requires alot of travel time away from home. We need to have at least 5 sets of clothes for each child so that we are not sending our children to school in dirty clothes. Thats $700.00 in uniforms and that is just to get them started. This doesn't account for growth spurts, or the cost of shorts for the beginning and end of the school year. I feel we should be able to deal with Dennis and an alternate company that is in town like Sears or JCPenny. Sears would cost us $420.00 getting French Toast, they avg. $28.00 a set per kid. I would also like to see the plaid stay. I do respect what Father and Mrs. Potts are trying to do. But we as parents need to teach our children the proper way to dress and respect the way they present themselves, we are not paying the teachers to do this, we are paying for an education. Parents need to take more responsiblity for their children and their behavor.Flag

Every morning the teachers have to make sure the children are dresses according to school policy, right down to wearing a belt, or else they are written up. I agree that the uniform policy is not enforced at St. Rita's and that is the problem, not where the parents purchase the clothes. I get tired of arguing with my child about wearing certain apparel (socks) that is not in compliance with the code just because the other kids do, Enforcement is the issue. Furthermore, I have already purchased clothes for my son for next year when they were on clearance last fall. This is a regular practice for me because I cannot afford to buy everything at once. The cost of pants from Dennis Uniform is going to be prohibitive for me. It will run about $35/pair as opposed to $18 at Target. Plus I will have to find a seamstress to hem them at $10/pair. That is the reason i never bought them from Dennis Uniform in the past. Their off the rack clothes don't fit my son and I will have to pay to have them tailored.Flag

I also agree that there has to be a more affordable option than Dennis Uniform. However, I am concerned that the petition as stated above is too detailed, and might be better received by the administration if it were shorter and more direct. Just an observation on my part.Flag

I am always on the look for uniform shirts and pants on sale at other stores and buy them as i can. If there are students violating the dress code they should be disciplined but do not punish the families who are trying to follow the rules.Flag

We seem to be creating a new uniform code to solve the problem of a lack of enforcement. If we are going to start to enforce a new uniform policy, why couldn't we enforce the old one I think that we just follow the old policy and leave well enough alone. Additional cost and inconvience are enough of a issue to not use an out of town uniform company. I have no problem with our children in uniforms, one of the reasons we send our children to a school with uniforms is that we want conformity. So why don't we leave well enough alone and enforce the policy we already have. David McNamaraFlag
