Streamline Public Education
Though all of the diversity within the social domains of public school, one thing holds true in all students. Virtually every single one of them dislikes (hates) school. Why? Not neccessarily because it's boring or "pointless", but mainly because it's bloated with unnecessary hours and classes. Extra-curriculars are not the subject. The point is that each class is about twice as long as it needs to be, and there are way too many things happening at once. School shouldn't be the center of each child's life, it should be one aspect that enriches their overall being. Here is my school schedule.
7:30-8:25 Science
8:30-9:25 Geometry
9:30-10:25 English
10:30-11:15 Study Hall
11:20-11:45 Lunch
11:50-12:25 Health
12:30-1:25 French
1:30-2:25 Cooking
Here's my math. If we cut each class in half, focusing less on homework and more on learning (focusing on learning, what a concept), we could cut school time in half, leaving time in kid's busy days for enjoyable activities after school, and real learning outside the classroom.
So, here's a revised version, cutting class time averages in half, and removing Study Hall.
7:30-7:55 Science
8:00-8:25 Geometry
8:30-8:55 English
9:00-9:25 Health
9:30-9:55 French
10:00-10:25 Cooking
BAM!!! Because school would get out earlier, there would be no need for an in-school lunch, and school would become fours hours shorter. Student-happiness would overwhelmingly increase, attendance would rise due to less time in school, and because they would be more focused (especially if school started later, also), their grades and understanding of the subjects would rise. It's perfect. Lowering classtime=A Better School.
