Name: Andrea Formica on Nov 16, 2011Comments: As a mother, grandmother and old peds nurse I find the closing of all area pediatric units extremely worrisome. I was under the assumption that the merger between these healthcare facilities was to improve the health care of our community. What are we to do when a child becomes ill enought to require hospitalization? Sending them to an adult med/surg floor is certainly not the answer!!!!!!!! Are all nurses certified in peds care? Further, we are allowing young children to be exposed to all kinds of things their small bodies cannot physically handle. I can only wonder what other health care issues have been compromised because of this merger.Flag

We cannot fulfill our obligations as providers of good health and welfare to future leaders if we do not care for THEIR needs, as small people, with facilities that dedicate care for *them*. Thank you!Flag

Name: Dorothy Frament on Nov 17, 2011Comments: i am shocked that within the St. Peter's Health system there is no hospital with a dedicated family-child-centered pediatric unit. Children are not tiny adults--their medical, developmental, and psychosocial needs require a different model of care than a modified adult med/surg unit can provide. There needs to be a plan for a pediatric unit before a tragedies occur to force the issue.Flag

The special aspects of pediatric care (for kids AND their parents) are so important to making a hospitalization experience as un-traumatic as possible. Think of your own kids, yourself as a parent, and what you would want--and do the right thing!Flag

Name: Barbara Fleck, CNM, MSN on Nov 18, 2011Comments: I have always believed in the care and services offered by St.peter's especially in realizing needs of individuals in caring for them as their mission incorporates. Pediatrics is a specialty that should not be lost for in patient care to children and families. The staff has always been sensitive to the needs of these families. While this is clearly a change of economic times, I hope a hospital structure of this size would offer the community an alternative choice for pediatric care.Flag
