Name: Carolyn on Sep 30, 2009Comments: I realize this petition is against the Walmart expansion but I wish to advise that I am very much in favour of this expansion. To increase the store size by 56,000 sq.ft. will mean the possiblity of more jobs which is sorely needed with the economic times we are facing right now. With the competition it is going to create with the grocery stores, all the competitors will have to sharpen their pencils which can only benefit the consumer. I believe that most of the houses behind Walmart, were built before the store went in but there was not enough opposition to stop the store from being built then - why now I see that the originator of this petition lives a fair distance from the location of this store why should it both himFlag

Name: Melissa Manning on Sep 30, 2009Comments: In response to the article written by Lauren Gilchrist Wednesday, September 23/2009, I have to agree with the concerns voiced by Mr. Webster. I have also heard delivery trucks leaving and entering Wal-Mart at very early hours of the morning. My greatest concern comes from the issue that Milroy Drive is often the scene of drivers leaving Wal-Mart at speeds far above 50km/hr through this residential neighbourhood. Lastly, I suggest that Christopher Gregory (regional director of real estate for Wal-Mart Canada Corp.) come and look at the dumpster behind Wal-Mart - the black and green one he claims is not there, even though I can see it from my living room window...Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 30, 2009Comments: Walmart claims they will add 100 jobs. Someone has to lose jobs somewhere else in order to gain jobs there. People are not going to magically spend more at Walmart without spending less somewhere else. Nothing has been done about the noise complaints, garbage thrown over the side of the hill, etc.Flag

Name: Pauline Duffett on Oct 1, 2009Comments: I and my family are against the expansion of Walmart. They are an American company that seems bent on destroying fair competition between Canadian grocery stores and they are wll know in America as abusive employers and have a reputation for destroying other businesses in cities across the country. We do support the Loblaw application to build a No Frills grocery store in the North end.Flag

Name: Josh Vreugdenhil on Oct 2, 2009Comments: WalMart as it is now causes too much traffic on TowerHill and Milroy Streets and is unsafe for pedestrians. The city has also failed to complete any sidewalks for pedestrians along Milroy and the existing ones are full of garbage and construction materials. Walmart or Peterborough obviously does not care about the people living in close proximity to Walmart and neither do anything to clean up the area or provide services to residents.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 2, 2009Comments: the expansion of walmart to supercentre is the best thing that will happen to peterborough, and should of been done when they first built this store. it will create many jobs from low skilled jobs to part-time jobs for students to skilled manager jobs for those with expierence. Walmart canada and is porfits are held completely seperate for the rest of world, so in turn if you shop at walmart then you are shopping canadien. Furthurmore for all those who are apposed to this will be the ones who shop there for there low competetive prices. Walmart is a great company and will not go away.Flag

PLEASE do not let us be swallowed up by corporate interests! We must maintain the quality of our neighbourhoods and say NO to corporate greedmongers like WALMART at every opportunity.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 4, 2009Comments: Walmart is a North American scourge that exploits third world countries, sucks the life out of small towns and ultimately shuts down local independant stores. People need to realise that, in the long run, they will have to pay the true price - lost jobs, lost businesses, and deserted downtowns - for those great Walmart deals.Flag

Name: Stephanie Curtin on Oct 5, 2009Comments: Allowing walmart to expand beyond its already ridiculous size is absolutely corrupt. There is no way that this corporation should have been allowed to open up shop in a residential area. How did that happen Have we asked ourselves this And then have we sought answers Or just sat back and enjoyed the illusion of saving money Come on People! Come on Peterborough! City councellors should be sure to do their research outside of walmart suggested readings and takea look at any of the many documentaries created concerning this giant corporate bully. The biggest! 26 million dollars made every hour of every day worldwide...Give the other guys a chance to bring lower prices in! Check out the www.storyofstuff.comFlag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 5, 2009Comments: I am in favour of the expansion. FULL steam ahead. The current store is hardly in the middle of a residential area. It is built in a retail area. My only complaint is that misfits keep stalling and impeding various opportunities for the rest of us. And worse, spineless politicians are swayed by the nonsensical premise. A news flash for those that believe that Walmart puts other stores out of business, you’re WRONG, their customers do! You are free to spend you money however and wherever you choose, just let the rest of us do the same.Flag

Name: Roy Brady on Oct 11, 2009Comments: Enough is enough! The store should not have been placed in such a delicate area, particularly when it had a mall site. Besides unlimited expansion mentality, Walmart wants to sell cheap, imported food, further diminishing the efforts of local and regional food producers.Flag
