The Government of New Brunswick's Early Childhood Services program has asked participating daycares to attend an important professional development conference on Friday, September 30th. This event will require that your child care center shut down for that day in order for all staff to benefit from the training opportunities that will be made available to them. Since professional development days are not covered by government funds, operators will have to charge their daily fee for that day while parents find alternate care providers. Telling parents they must pay double for childcare services on this day, or take a vacation day from work because they will not subsidize the daycares participating in this program is not acceptable. The parents should not be financially responsible for the furthering of education of the employees at childcare facilities. If this is government mandated, it should be subsidized.
