Name: Kathleen Teal on Aug 11, 2008Comments: AS a parent of a young child with Down Syndrome I am heartbroke over the content of this movie and even moreso over the publics reaction to it. The intent in which it was made, according to Ben Stiller and Dreamworks, was not carried over to the general population. It was taken as hateful language that is funny to direct toward innocent beings. Sick!Flag

Name: Janet Atkinson on Aug 11, 2008Comments: Insulting groups of people is NEVER funny. We have enough stereotypes to battle without Tropic Thunder's portrayal of "Simple Jack". Retarded doesn't mean stupid or simple and people should not be encouraged to use the terms interchangeably.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 11, 2008Comments: I am so disappointed in this movie. We as a society have worked so hard to "include" individuals with any type of disability, and change the way these individuals are looked at. And yet here we are back in the dark ages...fighting the same fight! This is not acceptable and all involved should be ashamed of themselves! What is wrong with you peopleFlag

Name: Deborah Jacobs on Aug 11, 2008Comments: The world is made up of diverse individuals and it is up to all of us to be tolerant of one another, regardless of race, religion and abilities. It is time we stopped allowing hurtful and hateful words to be used just because they are fun. Acceptance of diverseness starts at home and spreads. My son deserves to live in a world that allows him to be who he is, a kind, thoughtful and intelligent young man who happens to have a cognitive disability. Not the stereotype others portray him to be because of their fowl words.Flag

Name: Veronica Fratta on Aug 11, 2008Comments: I'm so tired of so-called "comedians" picking on those who cannot defend themselves. Honestly, is there so little talent in Hollywood that the biggest laughs are obtained at the expense of the intellectually disabled I wonder if Ben Stiller would still be making fun of the disabled if HIS child were differently abled....Flag

Name: Gregory Holman on Aug 11, 2008Comments: In this age of political correctness and high intellectual moral mindedness, it sadness me to see film-makers and media exploiting the disadvantages of others as a means of comic relief. Ultimately they are attempting to capitalize on the weaker individuals in society as objects of ridicule rather than providing the support and encouragement which would bring everyone in this world into a more equal realm. I cannot see any difference between the treatment of individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities as second class citizens and the racial inequalities in this and other nations which society has fought against for many decades now. It is time to stand for the rights of all individuals no matter their race or culture or individual abilities as the typical population assess them.Flag

I have a wonderful grandson who is 8 years old and is entitled to live in a society free of such negative slang. What if it was their child, brother, sister, etc.Flag

I do not, however, object to the other words you use, such as "stupid," as they do not relate to my son's diability (i.e. mental retardation). Please take our plea seriously - if you had a diabled child, you would most likely feel the same way. Thank you.Flag
