A smoking ban would unnecessarilly restrict individual liberty. The Market is quite capable of taking care of this matter; establishments can decide whether to allow smoke, and patrons can decide whether to patronize an establishment or not.

I applaud Wisconsin for holding off on this and for letting the voters/citizens have their say. |

This is just another example of Big Brother looking out for our own best interest's, without our permission.
Do not take my freedom of choice
I work where we have 5 obese people on full disability for being a fat pig.We have NO smokers off for anything.Get with it and ban the fat pigs, they cost us more than smokers.

I may not be a WI smoker. But I still believe a smoking ban is a sign of discrimination towards WI smokers. And smoking bans take away the owners' freedom to choose if they want to allow smoking or not. This country is more like the land of the NANNIES instead of the land of the free. And that's why I view myself as more of an African living in a screwed-up country instead of being African-"American.". No offense to those who are proud to be Americans. But this smoking ban talk is one major reason why nobody lives free anymore. First, it's smoking. Next, it's certain foods getting banned. Don't get me started on the authorities....especially smoke cops. I hope and wish WI smokers can put smoking ban talk to bed for good by 2009. http://chicagosmoker-jay.blogspot.com/

Leave the smoking or non smoking issue to the individual business. Government has no business telling a business owner how to run their business. This is supposed to be a free society.

I am a non smoker and believe that Government has no right telling a private business what they can or can not do as long as it is a legally sold product.

II live in Janesville, where a ban was passed without citizen input (referendum). I no longer patronize any bar or restraunt in the city. If this goes statewide, I'll stay home. I want a vote on this!

I run in and out of and through Wisconsin a lot trucking through there. My company, based in Pacific, WA has a terminal in Green Bay. A statewide smoking ban in Wisconsin will mean that I will not stop for meals at truckstops in Wisconsin that I currently do. When smoking is banned in restaurants in a state, it usually means I'll just grab something to go at fast food places like a Mcdonalds or Burger King where they have a truck parking area. Either that or I'll just keep on driving until I get to a state where smoking is not prohibited. That's business and tips Wisconsin truckstop operators and their employees will lose.

Free Enterprise (business owners choice), Free Choice (customer choice) and signs is a WONDERFUL invention - made in the USA! Bans were devised to run profits for no-smoke products. Do NOT let the pharmaceutical industry take over the world !!! The smoke bans are just the beginning.

I am a non-smoker and am against the smoking ban. It is hurting smaller taverns, and helping corporate america get bigger.
