65 Bar owners should have the right to determine whether their establishments are smoke free or not. Bars are PRIVATE businesses funded by PRIVATE money. Everyone has a choice of whether or not to frequent any establishment that is not smoke-free.
66 If you don't like it, don't go in! Why should the owner of a bar have to accommodate you? You can be refused service for any reason (excepting constitutionally protected rights, i.e. race, etc.) You can go to a different establishment if you want. If the owner of the bar would prefer the smokers' business over yours, why should he be forced to give non-smokers preference? Open your own damn bar and make it non-smoking - but stop telling others what customers they should cater to. Oh yeah, and don't give me some crap about "it protects the workers." Most bar employees do smoke. Moreover, employees don't have to work in a bar that allows smoking if they don't want to. The service industry is perhaps the easiest of industries to jump from establishment to establishment in. There are plenty of non-smoking bars and restaurants such an employee could work in.
67 As someone who lives in a neighboring state to Wisconsin(Illinois), and actively has visited the state from time to time throughout my life and still today, a total smoking ban(a la the bans in Appleton + Madison) would be absolutely wrong for Wisconsin lawmakers to adopt. If any Wisconsin lawmakers are blind enough to think a ban would be good for the whole state, I dare such lawmakers to try telling that to the owners of 20+ bars in either Appleton or Madison that were forced to close, because of the total bans in those 2 cities. Never mind that also in the 2 years before Minnesota adopted a total statewide ban, over 100 private businesses in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota were forced to close, due to total smoking bans adopted by several nearby suburbs, the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and partial bans in the MN counties of Hennepin and Ramsey. In addition, many private businesses in WI have already gone smoke-free on their own, and the free market has already encouraged an increasing number of businesses(and even a small and growing number of bars) to go smoke-free on their own. It's time for both Gov. Doyle and for anti-sympathetic WI lawmakers to butt out, and to stop buying the lies of extremist anti-smoking groups trying to shove their deceptive agenda against the will of Wisconsin residents and business owners, when plenty of smoke-free businesses already exist throughout Wisconsin.

72 I am a pregnant non-smoker and STILL do not support a smoking ban. What next? Banning french fries from restaraunt menus because they are "bad for me"? We are each responsible for our own health. If you don't want second-hand smoke and you honestly believe that being in a smokey bar for an hour or two will make your health suffer, THEN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Restaraunt, bar, and tavern owners have worked too hard to keep their businesses going already. Don't be the reason they have to close.

79 Smoking in Wisconsin is my personal choice. It should not be up to anyone to decide if I should smoke or not.

82 Save our Republic stand up for individual freedom of choice in ALL private matters by supporting equal, fair and just taxation and public policies regarding smoking, abortion, gay unions, and right -to-die. Government has no business in any of these private decisions!!!
83 I am fed up with State and Federal governments moving us towards communism by thinking they can take away my right to choose if I smoke or not. It doesn't matter if I am a smoker or not. As far as I am concerned they are committing treason against American citizens.

85 With each government restriction placed upon our ability to make our own choices takes away a bit more freedom. Eventually we will lose all the freedoms that we claim to hold so dear so that the government can turn us into mindless drones to do its bidding. Preserve our freedom. Oppose the statewide smoking ban.
86 I live in Appleton where there is a ban in effect already. I find it quite funny that all those people voted for the ban in bars. Now where are they? If you take a step in any bar on College Ave, you'll find about a tenth of the people that used to be in there before the ban. Most of those people go outside and have a cigarette too! What was the point?

91 I am not a smoker but I do feel that people that do smoke should have the right to do that. they are of age in most cases and should be able to make their own choice. I am go somewhere that is very smokey and I don't like it I leave. Same with the workers there are other jobs out there that don't require them to be in a smoke enviroment if they choose. and most that are there smoke themselves that is why they choose to work a job that is like that. this is just another way for the goverment to control our rights.

97 Aren't there more "important" things to worry about in the world than smoking bans?
98 The non-smokers don't have more rights than smokers. Outlaw tobacco or shut up!
