This is about private property rights, and the right of a private citizen to allow the use of a legal substance on their private property. If Wisconsin's elected officials are convinced of the dangers of secondhand smoke - which is based on flawed data, no less - they should outlaw smoking altogether. Anything less is an abomination of the Constitution.

As a non-smoker, I want to come out in defense of *choice* - the choice for people of legal age to consume a product that is legal in all fifty states. I take umbrage with the government telling me what is and is not healthy. Today it's smoking, tomorrow it's that steak you wanted for dinner. Think it can't stop here? Think "public health" interests won't creep into your home, your fridge, your lunch box? Think again.
This isn't about smoking, it is about our basic rights as human beings to choose our own path in life. once that is taken away from us, our government becomes one of tyranny. This is not the future that we want.

What happened to the FREEDOM of the American people? When did the government decide to step in & tell us what we can & can not do with a product that is legal? How can they tell a business owner what they can & can not do with their establishment? If non-smokers don't like the smoke, they don't have to patronize the business!

I am a non-smoker. It scares me what the legislators will do next.
I believe these types of bans are contrary to what our Founding Fathers had in mind for this nation. Cigarettes are a legal substance, if banned we should be given back every tax dollar we've had taken from us that is then given to tobacco growers and other tobacco related interests - effective immediately.

I am a former smoker whot quit 15 years ago. I no longer desire to smoke and really don't like the smell of it anymore. However, I don't want government to have this power and to usurp our freedoms. Let those who wish to smoke smoke. Where will all of these bans stop?
What's next? Red meat? Beer? Bacon? Butter?
As an adult I have the right to make the decision to smoke, and if there is a establishment that is free of minors I should have the right to smoke. I believe there should be provisions to support smoke free bars and taverns, as well as bars that are allowed to have smoking in them. Both sides should be able to have a social setting to thier liking. Other provisions, like improved ventilation requirements for smoking establishment, would be acceptable.

The Smoking Ban is an infringemnent of rights. Let the business owner run his establishment the way he intended it to be! First this, whats next. Watch our rights go down the drain-until they are gone. Thank you uncle sam for making all of my choices for me. I don't know what I would do without you. After all I am a mindless zombie!
Where will it end? What will be next? Our right to control the temperture in our homes? Look at California, they are out of control.

I live in the city of Hudson, and feel that the local market forces have worked to perfection. There is a high percentage of bars and restaurants that do not allow smoking, and a smaller percentage which do. This is the perfect "American" solution. There is something for everyone.

it should be the choice of the restaurant/bar owner if wants smoking patrons and if a non-smoker does not want to go there that is their free-will choice. don't punish all.
Enough of this. There are too many restrictive laws now!
Hey, I don`t live i wisconsin, I live in Stillwater.I have chosen to spend my entertainment money in somerset or hudson due to the ban in Mn. I don`t want to drive any farther, LOL

Take a lesson from MN. Allow us the choice to patronize or not. Smokers are not right when bigger issues are at stake.
