Name: Tracy Hommel on Dec 1, 2006Comments: There is not enough being done to help protect the victims of today, which encourages the abuse of victims tomorrow......Laws are not being enforced, women and children are not being protected. Something needs to be changed! Laws need to be enforced, and many need to be trained in what DV truly is.........DV MUST be taken out of family court! It is a CRIME! Stiffer penalties must be reached for DV Offenders, and must be enforced! The eyes of Society are opening, and hence will come change........ Sincerely, Tracy Hommel Co-Owner/Web Developer of UAADV.orgFlag

Name: Robin Downs on Dec 5, 2006Comments: I am a childhood survivor of domestic abuse, along with emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. I have had a lifelong struggle with the effects of the abuse. As a child witnessing severe violence to my mother by my step-father was in some ways worse than my own personal abuse. To make matters worse, no one was ever there to help me, and it was not a law to report abuse. The schools could only console me and then send me back home. The human spirit is amazing...with help we can heal from almost anything, but left alone we struggle just to survive with lifelong physical and mental illness...others decide it insn't even worth living. The violence needs to end, but until that time, people must be accountable for these crimes! The system needs harsher consequences and must keep violent criminals in jail and off the streets. Those who qualify for rehabilitation and therapy must be held to the highest standards before being let back into society with extensive therapy and some kind of probation agreement so if they begin to act out they would be reincarcerated. Congress needs to allocate appropriate funds for prevention programs(especially at the juvenile level) along with therapy and rehabilitation for all violent inmates. Children especially need our protection, and when abuse has been reported they should NEVER be sent back to their abuser!!! You wouldn't send a rape victim to live with her abuser, therefore don't order a child to visit with a parent who has abused them! We need education in all walks of society, including and especiall in the school system. High schools should mandate a course dealing with these issues, and counselors need to give more lessons than just "stranger danger"! The majority of abuse comes from family and friends more than strangers! Please make this a National Priority...pregnant women are killled by their boyfriends and husbands at an alarming rate, women often have to resort to self-defense by killing their abusers, and then are punished for protecting themselves, and child abduction, rape, and murder is out of control, children are killing their parents, parents are killing their children, and how many more school shootings do we have to endure! We must make this a National Priority! A life of fear, depression, anxiety, and suicide is not really living, and one death is too many!Flag

Name: Cynthia Winsett on Dec 9, 2006Comments: I am a victim of RAPE and I reported it. When it was time to go before the Grand Jury, the detective and DA on my case said we had a ROCK SOLID case. Well, the day came, and I went before the Grand Jury, and before i left that room, I just knew deep down inside that they were going to let this guy walk! I left and went home, which was an hour away, and no more been home than 30 mins. The phone rang, it was the DA............NO BILL!!!! My heart sank. I want to STAND UP for OUR RIGHTS and get fair punishment and fair justice. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE IN OUR COURTSFlag
