Name: David White on Mar 18, 2009Comments: I support the free press, they may not always say things I agree with but it is better to have them than not have a local newspaper. We need truely local newspapers and people who know Stockport! Best Wishes to the staff at the Stockport Express!Flag

Name: Dennis Carter on Mar 18, 2009Comments: Despite being a born southener, I am very proud to have a quality newspaper and a substantial "news" local paper -the MEN News and Wilmslow Express. Real world news is reported alongside local news unlike the national daily papers. This is a real shock and announced without any regard for the loyal readers. I pay for my edition, unlike the freebie issues in Manchester. I feel strongly aggrieved that such plans have provided no consultation.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 18, 2009Comments: Local voice is crucial! These cuts will mean that people in the local area will not be represented and this will shatter community cohesion. Basing a local education journalist in a central Manchester office is ridiculous; photographers and journalists need to be within the community they are reporting on! Schools closely monitor their work on community cohesion - these redundancies oppose community cohesion because you need knowledge of the community you serve in order to develop a relationship. If journalists are moved they will not have knowledge on local issues.Flag

Name: Peter Devine on Mar 18, 2009Comments: Stockport needs its own weekly newspapers which are run and operated from the town. Moving to Manchester will adversely affect the content of the news output because local issues will take a backward step. Community news has to be preserved.Flag

Name: Marjorie Callan on Mar 18, 2009Comments: These local newspapers are an invaluable link for the local communities and local people. We want to hear about what is going on in our area and schools. These newspapers are a lifeline for small communities to raise their concerns and give them a voice. We would lose this personal touch if the local papers go.Flag
