Name: Ashley Cosgrove on Feb 11, 2004State: RICountry: USComments: My school handbook says the same thing, and I found this petition while attemtpting to gather information for an article for our school newspaper on gay awareness, if you will. I am sick to death of hearing gay/fag/dyke, etc... equated with stupid and I want to do anything I possibly can to help. A friend, a teacher, and I are currently endeavoring to get a gay-straight alliance started to do the very same thing you are doing here. I wish you much luck in your quest.Flag

Name: Alex Factor on Feb 25, 2004State: GACountry: USComments: Well, I just have to say that I totally support you.(All the Way). "If I had to keep count of how many times faggot or gay was said In my school,I would lose count." We had a talk today in class. Over Gays and Gay Marriage. There were so many confuesd people on the subject. My teacher was saying that Gays are no different from any other person. Which is true. Students were getting pretty heated on the subject. But in the end, everyone left the class knowing just a little bit more, on the life of (homosexuals). I just wish that it could be talked about more in schools. And the word sexuality could be published in the handbooks. I fell It's nessesary and only the (Equal and Right thing to do. well this is all I have to say (For Now);] Thank You for your time.I look forward to more stories like yours! Always, Alex FactorFlag

This is a wonderful idea, and I believe that other schools (including catholic/parochial school, and also all-girls and all-boys schools, who also have "closeted" homosexual students). This would make a wonderful addition to any school's handbook of student conduct.Flag

Name: Rodger Murray on Mar 1, 2004State: TNCountry: USComments: I have been constantly harrassed and bullied by heterosexuals in school because of my sexuality. I am not as fortunate as some other people I live in a place where homosexuals are not accepted. That doesn't stop me though I am still proud of who I am even though I havelost many friends because of it. I hope this petition will stop all the harrassment against homosexuals in schools.Flag

Name: Dana Hafter-Manza on Mar 3, 2004State:Country:Comments: I congradulate you on your ability to speak out so freely. I am wholeheartedly with you. At my high school, though I am not personally opressed, there are many incidents everyday which go completely overlooked because no one thinks twice about them. Countless times a day, the words "faggot" and "gay" are used to describe someone or something that is stupid, dumb, or gross. Teachers, school administrators, and peers in school should not be afraid to speak out in defense of gay rights. We should all support each other in not only coming out, but in overcoming thoughtless homophobic comments and sayings. After all, hate is NOT a family value.Flag
