Name: Anonymous on Jan 4, 2013Comments: Please take a non-bias look at the facts of the matter on gun control. The FBI has published findings for years that support with strong numbers that fact that areas with higher percentages of gun owners have lower crime rates. The horrific incident at Sanndy Hook happened in a state with an assault weapons ban. Columbine happened during a failed so called "assault weapons" ban as well. Let us note that actual assault weapons have been regulated going back to the National Firearms Act of 1936. Legislation on these semi-automatic weapons and standard capacity magazines does nothing to stop such crimes, which as the stats show on FBI.gov make up less than 1% of violent crimes comitted with firearms. Please, observe the facts. Legislation such as another pointless ban will not be supported, enforced or do anything to stop crimes such as those mentioned. Thanks for your time, CDT Mike Owen, US ARMYFlag

Name: Danny R. Rakes on Jan 6, 2013Comments: Danny Rakes Jan. 6, 2013 184 Dry Branch Road Ranger, WV 25557 I believe the gun ban President Obama is suggesting as a means to combat mass killings will only serve to make things worse. It just simply is not the way. In 1971 Mexico took the rights of their citizens to bear arms except in their homes and of the calibers specified by the government. Well I think we all know how that worked out for them. Some will argue that the criminals down there are getting their guns from the United States to carry out mass killings on a continuing pattern of violence against law-abiding Mexican citizens who have no way to fight back. If that is so, it's the fault of US government agencies whose job it is to stop the flow of illegal gun trafficing like that. It's not the fault of the US responsible gun owners. I totally agreed with the NRA,,if the government/media get a gun ban shoved down our throats as a means to stop mass killings in schools, I believe time will prove that they've made a decision that will cost young lives again some day,,then what will they have to say? "We're so sorry, we were wrong"? I doubt it,,they'd more than likely find a way to blame someone or something else. I have a grandchild in school now and I would feel a lot better having armed security guarding her life than to rely on a sliver of hope that some nut is less likely to get his hands on a semi-automatic sporting rifle. That's an absurd thing to put your trust in when it comes to your child's life. I live in a rural area and only 2 miles from our school. We have no cell service here at all. The telephone lines are above ground. You can see how easy it would be for a phycotic killer to cut the phone service and have plenty of time to destroy countless dozens of young lives before any help could even be summoned, not to mention the time it would take after that for 1st responders to reach the scene. Especially if he had one or two others helping him. You must listen more open minded to the NRA's proposals. The news media is absolutely doing everything they can to push this proposed ban into law. You must know that's true. They are abusing the freedom of the press. We know it and they know we know it and they don't even care that we do. This must not be allowed to happen. Please stand with the American people against those who would abuse us. I firmly believe the 2nd Amendment was put in place to give us the power to resist all enemies, including a government out of control. We WILL keep that right intact. Thank you for listening.Flag

However I also recognize that it is precisely in this charged enviornment when we need to be stronger than ever in using our reasoning and rationale to approach an event such as this. Reactionary policy always makes for horrible policy.Flag
