Edward RompalaI am strongly against this proposal. Both waders and drifters have to get along. Neither has more of a right to the water.
Brien McGuireI have been wade fishing the West Branch for 10 years. I have never had a bad expereince with drifters nor have I felt they were crowding the river. The size of this river easily supports both waders and drifters. The trend in this state to over-regulate all aspects of our lives is obtrusive, eltitist and Un-American.
jim costolnickI am against the fishing from boat ban on the WB delriver.
Bob MeadProper etiquette and manners would go a long way. If regulations are needed they should model plans in place on busier rivers out West.
Rick McMullenI fish the West Branch of the Delaware River and am strongly against proposed regulation # R4-5. Thank You, Rick McMullen
Eric CarrMy opinion its obsurd to ban fishing from a drift boat, Its a shame that is has come to this...
Jeffrey BillerI am an angler and I am against the DEC proposal #r4-5.
Brett A ColliganI'm against prohibiting...Brett A Colligan
Kent AllenbyThe West Branch is large enough to be shared by all, wading fishermen and drift boat fishermen.
Martin FrentzI fish the west branch of the Delaware river and Would not want to see a bann on water craft
William Barry MillMany of us who are getting up in years find it difficult to wade for extended periods of time, using a drift boat is the only way to access the river. Also, the access to the river is so limited that a person can only fish a very restricted area
Dr. Howard J KassSubject: Input on Possible Fishing Regulation Changes for 2008; ID # R4-5 I fish the West Branch of the Delaware River and am strongly against proposed regulation # R4-5. Why would do such a thing. This river is beautiful, the fisherman protect and cherish it and it is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. Making this river unfishable by water craft is down right NON-AMERICAN. You should be ashamed at even suggesting such a proposal. Thank You, Dr. Howard J Kass
Matt BatscheletI am against Proposal #R4-5
AnonymousI feel no changes should me made to the current reulations.
Rich NormanI oppose this regulation, and would note that it would be equally unfair to ban wading, or for that matter sitting on the bank fishing. If it is the boats that are the problem, why are we not banning all boating? I don't think that would be popular or in the best interest of the resource either.
John DownsI wade fish the West Branch of the Delaware River and am strongly against the proposed regulation # R4-5. I also own use both a drift boat and a pontoon craft while fishing on the West Branch and have never experienced any difficulties with other wade or drift boat fisherman during the last 15-20 years of camping and fishing the river system. The river is plenty big enough to handle all types of fishing from either boats and walk in wading. Doesn't the State have more pressing issues to deal with then this matter. I can be reached at 717.849.4544 and would be more then happy to discuss my feelings on the issue. John J Downs 537 W. Heatherfield Way Red Lion, PA 17356
Mark MalenovskyI am against reg R4-5
Joshua ChenelDirft boat fishing only enhances the fishing experience. Do not take away our right to fish as we wish.
Douglas ErmidesI am both a wade and boat fisherman and have never found the actions of those who float the West Branch of the Delaware River either a nuisance or anything more than a passing interference. My experience is that the majority of float fishermen exercise great caution and deference to fishermen who are wading.
James ZervosI am against any propasal to regulate fishing from boats. Most of the land along the river system is private, and access is limited. Older anglers and people with physical disabilities will suffer as well as the fishing guides who make a living. There are more important issues that should be addressed such as consistent water flows.
Bryan HaldaneI am against the proposed regulation.
Peter BousumBanning of fishing from boats will undoubtedly cause massive congesttion of wade fishing areas and more problems than it appears to relieve. Consider that the same number of fishermen are forced to use the limited accesses.
Tom ButlerIt's all about freedom.
B. Hopkins.
Brian BelcherI am a land owner on the West Branch and I bought the property for the sole purpose of fishing the West Branch of the Delaware River - my fishing will be done by wading and by boat - I am totally against this proposal because it takes away my right to fish this wonderful river in the fashion I so desire
AnonymousProposed regulation promotes exclusivity.
Kenneth W. MeadThis is over regulation!
colman crowtherobviously a stupid proposal.
Gregory J. RiceFishing from watercraft on the West Branch is a totally benign use of the waterway that supports multiple businesses and provides recreation for NY residents and others.
thomas j baublisi don't think this is fair to pontoon boat fishermen
John LivelyBanning watercraft fishing on the West Branch of the Delaware would exclude vast sections of it from any public fishing at all.. since the number of places where the public has shore access is very small and unlikely to increase anytime soon.
Jack Van RiperI am against this ban
Arthur WehrhahnAs a ten-year plus fisherman on the West Branch, and although primarily a wading fisherman, I would not want to see such a stringent regulation on this river. Every boatman, but one, has been courteous to me in all that time.
Allan PodellAlthough I do not fish from a boat, I am against this proposal because it is intrusive, does nothing for the fishery, does nothing for the reason(social) stated, and makes no sense.
David S. HauckThis proposal would prohibit some persons with physical disablities, young, and elderly persons from fishing this part of the river
George VelissarisThe proposal is ridiculous, especially when the river is at high water levels there is no reason to ban angling from boats as there is no danger to the natural fish population, surrounding nature or anything for that matter there are no motors used which could potentially polute the waters from engine oils and gas i am completely againts this proposed regulation that would not benefit anyone and more so, reduce the visiting angler to our greta river sysytem , thus creating a deficit in the neiboring community economy
Margaret FeinbergI strongly believe prohibiting boats (Drift Boats) will have an adverse effect on the local economy of this area. Many families are supported by the angling visitor, not just the guides. My family and I enjoy wading the river to fish as well as hire a "local" guide to drift us down river and for years excluding this past Labor day, due to the condition of the river , have rented drift boats and canoes and fished the West Branch. Yes, sometimes it is crowded with drift boats as well as wading fishermen, Guides usually stay well clear of wading anglers. However, what will the ultimate result be? All anglers will have to wade fish? Can the designated DEC areas support the extra anglers? Will we have to fish elbow to elbow and fight for a position in the river? Lets all try and get along and do what we're there for, FISH.
AnonymousI am against banning fishing from water craft on the West Branch.
Bob LannonI don't understand how this is a positive thing.
gary serfassAre Land owners writing the Regs or WHAT?
Charles SabinoStrongly opposed to any regulation around West Branch angling from boats.
John McAuleyI fish the West Branch and am against DEC#4-5 Thank you John McAuley
john c oxmanThis proposal is anti-democratic--just spend a day on the river and count how many people use the river from boats vs. how many people are wading. Also, take a look at the behavior--boats swing wide around waders, but waders do not necessarily try to give the boats clearance. This proposal is wrong.
Ron RakowskiI believe NYS DEC should be using our $ to protect the fish and put in boat ramps. Who is driving this nonsense?
Federico E LedesmaI cannot see any possible benefit to the state or surrounding communities to implement this regulation other than to please a tiny contingent that might be opposed to any kind of traffic or use by the general public for their own selfish reasons.
Leonard GorbatyI fish the West Branch of the Delaware River, and am strongly against proposed regulation #R4LJ. If you pass this regulation there will be no way to fish the West Branch because the shores are private property.
felix arenaHOGWASH
mark heinzei'm against the banning of boats.
Troy CreasyPerhaps bank anglers should be more regulated?
Charles NixThe modified proposal (odd and even days) seems reasonable.
