The child support system throughout America is designed to criminalize those who do not pay or have difficulty paying their child support orders. These individuals are not even empowered by the same system to know what to do when faced with certain challenges. These Individuals drivers license and other professional license are suspended; they are incarcerated; and other unfair penalties are placed upon them. They then find it hard to find employment and other opportunities. Individuals who may become sick or injured and have no insurance find it impossible to pay because they cannot work, however, child support does not recognize their potential disability because it takes the Social Security Administration for ever to approve the person, if at all. further victimizing the individual. We want a more fair and equitable system. We want shared custody at once. where no money is exchanged from parents to parent. For Example: if the father is taking care of the child 50% of the time, then he should not be obligated to pay the mother. if the mother needs to get on welfare for any reason, then if she qualifies for $200 in cash, then she should only get $100 because the father is doing his part. There are more details that should be looked at, but this is the general idea. The present system is destroying our families, the children, the community and adding to the already broken criminal justice system. This is nothing more then the idea of a debtors' prison. A debtors' prison is a prison for those who are unable to pay debt. Prior to the mid 19th century debtors' prisons were a common way to deal with unpaid debt. In 1833 the United States abolished federal imprisonment for unpaid debts, and most states outlawed the practice around the same time. Before then, the use of debtors' prisons was widespread; signatories to the Declaration of Independence, James Wilson and Robert Morris were both later incarcerated, as were 2,000 New Yorkers annually by 1816. Henry Lee III, better known as Light-Horse Harry Lee, a Revolutionary War general, former governor of Virginia, and father of Robert E. Lee, was imprisoned for debt between 1808 and 1809. Sometimes, imprisonment would result from less than sixty cents' worth of debt. The New Slavery! Please sign this petition so that we can forward it to President Obama and to other elected and community officials, to take a stand with us, "The People", to put an end to this system of destruction...
