WE, the undersigned, oppose any zoning change that would permit the construction of “The Andrew,” on the present parking lot of St. Andrew’s Church.

As Alderman Smith once said on her Web site: “. . . additional high-rise buildings would negatively impact quality of life by increasing traffic congestion, affecting parking and safety, overtaxing city services and creating a high-rise “canyon” effect that would block sunlight and existing views.”

We couldn’t agree more:

• At 45 stories, The Andrew would create just the “canyon” effect Alderman Smith said she was looking to avoid.
• With 288 condominiums and 600 parking spaces, it would increase traffic congestion,
• It would also make it significantly harder to get a seat at rush hour on Sheridan Road bus routes—which would affect not only those who reside near The Andrew, but all 48 th Ward residents who use those lines.
• And, because The Andrew would block sunlight and lake views from at least three existing buildings, property owners can expect to see a loss of property value and/or rental income if it is built.

As residents and as voters, we urge the 48 th Ward Zoning & Planning Commission and Alderman Smith to vote a firm “NO” on the zoning changes that would allow The Andrew.
