Tesco have unveiled plans to turn there store in the small town of Middlewich into a superstore bigger than the one in Northwich (a much larger nearby town). In short these plans will almsot triple the size of the footprint of the existing store and will require the demolition and flattening of trees, greenland and some beautiful old houses. They are planning to create an entrance on a road that simply cannot support any extra traffic flow and is adjacent to several schools giving rise to potentially dangerous situations for children. The added traffic flow to surrounding roads will also cause major problems for locals and commuters who pass through our lovely town. Tesco already has the existing supermarket in Middlewich which it took over from Somerfield a couple of years ago to the dismay of the locals and 2 Tesco express stores within 2.5 miles of each other, putting that into perspective Middlewich's population is around a mere 13,900!! So do we really need a hypermarket!! These plans will all but sign the death warrant for many of the shops on our high street that are struggling enough alread in these fragile economic times, so I ask that you sign this petition in order that we may stop this corporate machine from marching over all in front of it, save the old buildings, the green land, the wild life that lives within it, save the children from dodging thousands of cars and delivery lorries on a daily basis and save the high street, its amazing what you can buy locally if you look on the high street! Please help...
