I, the undersigned, respectfully request that the City of Houston deny Weingarten Realty's request for a variance to permit a second story, open air porch that encroaches on the existing setback along Shepherd Drive. As currently contemplated, the structure--to be used as a wine bar--is unacceptable in that it encroaches into the setback, and does not adequately protect neighbors from disturbingly loud noises to come from the open air porch (which Weingarten has confirmed will be rented for parties). Further, the location of the porte-cochere underneath may heighten traffic accidents and fatalities along this accident-heavy part of Shepherd.
