Comments: Our family is very opposed to this. We have one very good marina on the north end. This is a family area. It is quiet an not over developed. This will add to garbage, noise, and more boaters. Our house is on the river. We have acceptable boat action on river, mostly from home owners. A marina will add much traffic and ruin quiet fishing and swimming on river. It also brings more intoxicated boaters. Most of the boats at the marina will be out non property owners who could care less what happens after their time here. Many of them come down the river drunk and create a hazard on our small river. Most of us property owners at Schroon bought because of what it is. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful Adirondack lake setting. We do not need to make this a mini Lake George. Keep the partying down there where it belongs!!!!

Comments: Keep our river clean and preserve the natural beauty. We live directly across from this site, and all I can envision is oil and gas fumes floating my way as I relax on a raft in the once clean river.

Comments: I am strongly opposed to any further development on South Schroon Lake and River, especially a marina. This project will damage shorelines, harm wetlands and natural habitat, create pollution on the land and riverway, and ruin the serenity and scenic beauty of the river. After reading the APA Regulations (see Links), it looks to me that a marina will violate all sorts of restrictions and protections.

Comments: I am opposed to the marina. The applicant has not proven the justificaton for a use variance. The Zoning Board of Appeals should not send the applicant to the county to purchase additional property, The ZBA is suppose to rule on compliance with the regulations and public participation. This mis application of zoning is not in compliance with the surrounding use and is also under water at this time.

Comments: It is confusing to me as to why we are even in this pickle, commercial development is forbidden on the river. I pray that the ZBA sees fit to keep our river as it is, let us avoid becoming Lake George North. If the ZBA grants one variance watch the flood gates open, best to leave cans full of worms unopened.

Comments: I have enjoyed this portion of the Schroon River for many years, both as a child in a canoe with my father and now, in a canoe with my three sons. The boys delight in counting how many turtles they see on each trip, and have seen close-up many bird species. This will forever be a thing of the past with this type of development.

Comments: Increased boat traffic around and under the bridge will be a nightmare. Let's see....30 to 40 docks for rent on one of the few lakes around here that presently has no speed limit....can't take my high powered, high noise level boat to Lake George or Brant Lake and run it flat out....hmmm

Comments: This is seriously Not cool! Right by the lake house that my grandparents own! The thought of this makes me very angry... I understand the feeling that you want to expand and "colonize" the river but it is very populized already... Any further continuation of this already monstrous cycle could cause problems and permanent damage to the lake, its residents, and the environment that so many of us enjoy, Taking away the natural beauty, experience, and peacefulness of the lake would absolutely decrease the enjoyment factor of this wonderful place that is such an integral part of my family's history! The thought of not being able to enjoy the one-on-one times with select members of my family during a simple canoe ride seems just repulsive to me! All of the simple things that we get to do that we take for granted will be totally gone and will stand as a great loss... My cousins and I, due to the reduced amount of boat traffic in this small area that we call our vacation house often go "clamming" , or searching for mussels that are natively found in the muck down under the water in this area, which we of course, throw back. Besides the dangerous possibility of a migration of these species due to pollution, further causing a collapse in the food chain in this area, the increase of boat traffic will caution us back towards shore in fear of boats driving too close to where we "go clamming." the destruction of this area's natural beauty is extremely ridiculous and should not even be a consideration.

Comments: I think the marina would not be a benefit to the lake, and that the approval of it would set a precedent that would be detrimental to the environment and the quality of life of residents of the area. I think the only benefit would be to the marina owner.

Comments: I am opposed to developing that spot. I do not see how there is room there without completely displacing the existing shoreline environment. I can not see how this will actually foster much economic development in this area as the boating season is so short in this area.

Comments: I would like to see the lake and the surrounding area preserved in its natural beauty. I visit the lake many times a year as my family has a house on it and I enjoy the peace and serene atmosphere it allows. I'm afraid this marina would increase the traffic on the lake unnecessarily and have long term ecological effects on it's landscape.
