While I fully agree, Schoolyard's lyrics are very dark and different from your average pop fair ( it took myself a while to get used to) they are great actors and great song writter's. They care about their fans and would never lead them astray.
I am the mom of 2 children and I understand a parents concern. I just wish the parents on this knew them as well as I do,and how nice,polite,articulate,caring and compassionate they all are..
I encourage these parents to go see the band and discuss their concerns about the lyrics..Would you not your children read Dante's Inferno, Frankenstein or Dracula,all great works of fiction that deal with dark subject matter? |

I saw the guitarist and bass player turn into bats once, and they flew around shooting lasers out of their eyes at the crowd. I got hit and have two gnarly laser scars now. I know that Elvis Presley shaking his hips is evil as well. Here are a couple of points to think about. First off, have any of you ever seen a sci-fi movie? How about a horror movie? These are the kind of things that their songs are based off of. That is pretty much it. No Satanic influences in sight, unless Satan was in a 50's science fiction movie battling robots and zombies. Secondly, I would much rather kids listen to something like this which is HARMLESS fun rather than the trash that MTV and similar media outlets market towards kids that objectify women and truly glorify violence. There is plenty of that on TV RIGHT NOW. You shouldn't have to look very far. Now go back to actual parenting and tell your child that if they are going to act out anything the Schoolyard Heroes sing about, tell them to input the Contra code because 30 lives will sure help them beat the classic NES game of the same name. Also, they will be prepared in case of zombie attack. |
